Treat Me Like an Adult

I had a lot of time on my hands today and decided to test whether restaurants do treat students in uniform differently. To make sure the test was fair I went to the same restaurant within the space of an hour and a half. I made sure I sat in the same spot which meant I got the same waiter.

I picked up my brother from school and we went for coffee together. The waiter was polite but our coffee took ages. We had kept the menus incase we wanted to get a bite to eat but the waiter never came back to check on us or ask if we wanted anything. When it came time to getting the bill, we couldn't get anyones attention and ended up having to go over and ask if we could pay.

My second trip I had organised to meet a friend. I quickly went home and changed into my regular clothes and wore my specs so make sure the waiter would't recognise me. This time around the waiter chatted to us for a while before taking our drink order and our coffee arrived relatively fast. The waiter informed us about the specials and helped us choose our lunch order. Once our food had arrived he checked on us twice during the course of our meal and when it came time to get the bill he came right over and helped us out. He was friendly, polite and seemed interested.

I was flabbergasted by how the waiter treated my brother and I just because we were in our uniforms. As a student I would not have gone back to the restaurant again as I felt very unwelcome.
